Child care: Ages 2–6 years, toilet-trained. All day costs $100 including lunch, a half day costs $80. Kids ages 4–6 can combine day care and a ski lesson for $100. Holiday rates are $6 more. The child-care center is slopeside, across from Red Cliffs Lodge. Reservations recommended; call 209-258-7274. Licensed child care for infants can be arranged with an outside agency at 209-258-8783.

Other options: If you need non-skiing child care, Bright Beginnings (775-588-5437) is a state-licensed day-care center in Stateline (just north of the casinos) for ages 6 weeks to 12 years. The center is open Monday–Saturday, 8:30 a.m.–-4:30 p.m., and the staff is very friendly. Reservations are required. The child-care centers at Heavenly (775-586-7000) and Kirkwood (209-258-7274) both have a list of babysitters, but expect to pay $15/hour for a sitter. Baby's Away (800-446-9030; 530-544-2229) rents and will deliver baby items (cribs, strollers, toys, etc.) to your hotel or condo anywhere in the Lake Tahoe area.

Children’s lessons: Ski lessons for ages 4–12 and snowboard lessons for ages 7–14 include rental equipment, lunch, lessons and lifts for $105 for a full day and $85 for a half day (no lunch). Multiday discounts are available. Holiday rates are higher. Helmets are encouraged for all children; rentals available. The children's ski and snowboard school is in the Timber Creek novice area, the first right-hand turn before you reach the main parking lot.
